FULTON, Mo. — Missouri Baptist University men's and women's tennis each earned historic victories on Wednesday, with both programs defeating William Woods for the first time in program history.
The Spartan men improved to 15–4 on the season with a 6–1 victory, while the women moved to 9–8 following a 5–2 win.
On the women's side, Missouri Baptist set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point. The No. 1 duo of Melissa Jangarasheva and Yvonne Shannon rolled to a 6–2 victory, while Mariana Azevedo and Lucia Rubio added a 6–4 win at No. 2. Jocelynn Carmody and Bissola Lassissi completed the sweep with a 6–4 decision at No. 3.
In singles play, the Spartans secured the match with four victories across the lineup. Shannon led the way with a dominant 6–2, 6–2 win at No. 1, while Rubio earned a straight-set victory at No. 3. Carmody added a 6–2, 6–4 win at No. 4, and Jangarasheva followed with a 6–2, 6–4 decision at No. 5 to seal the team result.
On the men's side, Missouri Baptist claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Luca Ebenriter and Sebastian Junghanns earned a 6–4 victory at the top spot, while Ruslan Anurev and Omar Farahat secured a 7–5 win at No. 3.
The Spartans carried that momentum into singles, winning five of six matches to clinch the 6–1 victory. Ebenriter delivered a commanding 6–1, 6–0 win at No. 1, while Strahinja Radanovic battled back for a three-set victory at No. 2. Junghanns added a 6–2, 6–2 win at No. 3, and Anurev followed with a straight-set victory at No. 4. Nicolas Sanchez rounded out the scoring with a 6–1, 6–2 win at No. 6.
The sweep marks a milestone day for Missouri Baptist, as both the men's and women's programs notch their first-ever wins over William Woods.
