OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Missouri Baptist University tennis standouts Luca Ebenriter and Yvonne Shannon have been named Heart of America Athletic Conference Players of the Week, the league announced on Monday, following strong performances in dual matches this past week.
Shannon earned the women's honor after leading the Spartans to a 5–2 victory over Illinois Springfield. Competing at the top of the lineup, she posted a perfect 2–0 record on the day, beginning with a dominant 6–1 win at No. 1 doubles alongside Melissa Jangarasheva to help secure the doubles point.
In singles play, Shannon delivered in a pivotal moment at No. 2, battling to a three-set victory (6–3, 5–7, 7–6) in one of the most competitive matches of the day to help clinch the team win.
On the men's side, Ebenriter was recognized after anchoring Missouri Baptist at the top of the lineup during a 1–1 weekend for the Spartans. He went 2–0 at No. 1 doubles alongside Sebastian Junghanns, including a 6–3 win over Lawrence Tech and a dominant 6–1 victory against Lewis-Clark State.
Ebenriter also delivered a marquee performance in singles, earning a three-set victory at No. 1 (6–2, 6–7, 6–3) against Lewis-Clark State. He held the lead in his No. 1 singles match against Lawrence Tech before play was halted following the team result.
The honors mark the first Heart Player of the Week selections of the season for Missouri Baptist tennis and the first of both Shannon's and Ebenriter's careers.
