OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The Missouri Baptist University Women's Volleyball team heads home in high spirits after sweeping William Penn University, finishing the weekend a perfect 6-0 in sets across its two matches.
No. 10 MBU fired on all cylinders throughout the match, committing just seven errors compared to 19 by the Statesmen.
The Spartans came out hot in the opening two sets and never looked back. MBU's largest scoring run came in the first set, when the Spartans rattled off an 11-1 run to build a 12-point advantage, their largest lead of the match.
The second set followed a similar script, with Missouri Baptist maintaining control from the opening serve. At one point, the Spartans held a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage before finishing the set at .318. William Penn struggled offensively, hitting .000 across the first two sets. MBU closed out the opening two sets, 25-13 and 25-14.
Set three proved to be the most challenging for the Spartans, as the Statesmen opened with a 4-0 run. MBU battled back to tie the set at 8-8 following a kill from Mia Klak. William Penn kept the set close for several more rallies before the Spartans pulled away, closing the match on a 13-3 run.
Caroline Tomlinson (5), Klak (4) and Noa Reculard (3) each recorded season highs in kills.
A total of 17 Spartans saw action on the court as Head Coach Claire Ochs went deep into her bench to close out the Iowa road trip.
No. 10 MBU will return to action Friday in Iowa against Saint Ambrose University for an evening matchup.
