CANTON, Mo. - The Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team closed out its lengthy road stretch in dominant fashion, sweeping Culver-Stockton College in straight sets, 25-13, 25-9, 25-15.
Alohilani Bursey delivered a season-best performance, recording 13 kills to lead the Spartans offensively.
Bursey came out firing, tallying six kills in the opening set alone. As a team, MBU recorded 16 kills compared to Culver-Stockton's eight. The Spartans used an 8-1 run to take control and built their lead to as many as 12 before closing out the set, 25-13. MBU finished the frame with an impressive .500 hitting percentage.
The Wildcats struggled to find an offensive rhythm over the final two sets, and the Spartans took full advantage. Culver-Stockton managed just six kills while committing 14 attack errors across the second and third sets.
Meanwhile, the No. 10 Spartans continued to apply pressure from the service line and at the net, finishing the match with 10 aces and seven blocks as a team. MBU cruised through the final two sets, 25-9 and 25-15, to complete the sweep.
The Spartans now turn their attention to a highly anticipated matchup against NCAA Division II and Conway Road rival Maryville University on Tuesday evening at home. The Saints came out on top in last year's meeting, giving MBU an opportunity to respond as the rivalry shifts to the Spartans' home court.
