Zack Kern is in his second season as Missouri Baptist’s special teams coordinator and safeties coach, and his fourth year overall on the Spartans’ staff. A former standout linebacker for MBU, Kern returned to the program as a graduate assistant in 2021 before moving into a full-time role in 2023.

Since joining the staff, Kern has coached an All-HAAC South First Team selection and two honorable mention honorees, while guiding a linebacker unit that led the NAIA in solo tackles. He has also contributed to recruiting, film analysis, and practice planning in addition to overseeing the Spartans’ special teams units.

As a player, Kern was a four-year member of the Missouri Baptist football program from 2017-21. He earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition twice (2019, 2020-21) and was named to the MSFA All-Academic Team in both 2018 and 2019. He capped his career by earning MSFA Midwest Defensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 30, 2021.

Kern holds both his bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Missouri Baptist.
