Last week's overtime victory over Hannibal-LaGrange College has put the MBU women's soccer team in the position to battle for second place in the American Midwest Conference against Park on Tuesday.
The Lady Spartans picked up a pair of wins last week, beating non-conference opponent Brescia University 2-0 on the road on Monday, followed by a 2-1 overtime victory over AMC foe Hannibal-LaGrange College on Wednesday.
Amanda Renaud and
Amy Kelly scored in the win over Brescia. Kelly again scored against Hannibal, with
Christina Burton also scoring.
With the win over the Lady Trojans, Missouri Baptist (5-3-1 in the AMC) guaranteed itself at least a third place finish in the American Midwest Conference. A win over Park University (6-3 in the AMC) would earn the Lady Spartans a second place finish and a first-round bye in the AMC Post-Season Tournament. The McKendree University Lady Bearcats have already secured first place with a 10-0 sweep of conference opponents.
The first round of the AMC Tournament will open November 6th, with the bottom four seeds playing. The top two seeds will face the winners in the semi-final round on November 9, with the conference championship set for November 12.
