St. Louis, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist men's basketball team was looking to end its two game losing streak against Fontbonne. The team never lost the lead after their opening basket and went on to win 72-55.
When the Spartans got possession for the first time agains the Griffins, fans could tell the team had alot of energy. It showed as MBU got off to a 16-1 lead, out-playing Fontbonne at both ends of the floor. The team was moving the ball well around to each other which led to open shots.
Missouri Baptist had a double-digit lead for the majority of the first half and at the end of 20 minutes were up 43-26. The team was led by
Dezmon Hickman who had 13 points and three assists. The Spartans shot a outstanding 57% from the field and held the Griffins to shoot 41%.
In the second half, the offensive frenzy continued for the Spartans. With eight minutes to go the Spartans were up 62-40. The team was able to get the crowd on their feet with a couple half court feeds that led to two handed slams.
The team dominated for the rest of the half going on for the win 72-55.
Dezmon Hickman chipped in nine points in the half, adding to his total of 22 for the game and
Kyle Ford added in seven that included a nice dunk.
Sam Pearson II had 13 points and three assists. The team shot 54% in the game and were able to force 15 turnovers.
The Spartans will look to follow up this game with another win when they play in the McKendree Classic against Bethel College on December 2nd at 5:00 p.m.
