MISSOURI BAPTIST BEGINS NEW YEAR WITH LOSS

Point Lookout, Mo. - Missouri Baptist men's basketball scored just 29 points in each half, on its way to a 58-85 loss to Bellevue University on Monday.

The Spartans, who entered the game with the second best record in the American Midwest Conference, struggled throughout the competition. Missouri Baptist managed to shoot just 37% from the field, as opposed to Bellevue's 50%. As a team, the Bruins also shot 40% from three-point range, sealing a decisive victory.

In spite of the result, Spartan guard Dezmon Hickman recorded an outstanding game. The junior dropped 26 points on Bellevue to lead all scorers. Bellevue's trio of Austin Bowen, James Parrott and Richard Shepherd, however, proved to be too much for MBU. The three combined for 49 points in the game, leading the team to victory.

The game was the second for Missouri Baptist without star guard, Sam Pearson III. Pearson, who leads the team with 16 points per game, is currently nursing a wrist injury and was greatly missed in the past two games.

The Spartans will turn around and play again tomorrow against tournament host College of the Ozarks. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
