ST. LOUIS, Mo.- After getting their first conference win against Park University, the Missouri Baptist men's soccer team looked to take that momentum to #13 ranked Missouri Valley Vikings. After keeping the game scoreless in the first half, the Vikings offense proved to be much, as MVU defeated the Spartans 3-0.
In the first half, the Vikings showed why they were ranked #13 in the NAIA men's soccer poll, with their fast play and ability to get behind a defense with their speed. The Spartans, however, hung tight defensively and gained a lot of confidence keeping the game 0-0 at the half.
Heading into the second half, the Spartans were looking to pull a major upset and give the team the biggest win on the season. The Vikings, however, were able to break the scoreless tie, with a goal in the 56th minute, as Declan Price gave MVU the one goal lead.
Just seven minutes later, the Vikings found the back of the net again, as Price set up forward Nicholas Alexander, scoring his seventh goal on the season, giving Missouri Valley some breathing room against a tough MBU team.
Missouri Valley put the game away with a goal in the 87th minute, off the foot of Thiago Ferreira to make it a final 3-0. The Spartans couldn't get much going offensively, as the team was outshot 29-3 in the game. Forward Danny Traylor led the team with two shots and Reed Holler added the other shot on goal.
The teams record drops to 3-11, but will be back in action on October 20th at 1:00 p.m. against William Woods in a important American Midwest Conference match-up.
