ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's wrestling made a statement in its first outing of the year on Saturday. Led by Cheyenne Youngblood, the team swept a talented field of ranked opponents at the Spartan Duals.
No. 8 Missouri Baptist entered both an "A" and a "B" team into competition on Saturday and the A squad was the most impressive team on the mat. Missouri Baptist defeated No. 17 McKendree, No. 9 University of the Cumberlands, No. 10 Midland University and No. 11 Waldorf College to secure an undefeated start to the year.
The story of the day, outside of the team success, was the wrestling of Youngblood. The Sophomore from Temecula, Calif., was brilliant, recording two wins by fall and dominant technical fall wins to round out her day.
Also big for Missouri Baptist was the superb wrestling of Montana Drum. The freshman from Neosho, Mo., went 3-1 on the day with one win by fall over Tia Kingsley from University of the Cumberlands.
The Spartan "B" squad dropped two duals on the day, both to ranked opponents in University of the Cumberlands "A" and McKendree "A." The team also picked-up wins against No. 11 Waldorf, McKendree "B" and University of the Cumberlands "B" along with a tie against No. 10 Midland.
Missouri Baptist will get back to work on Friday when the team heads to No. 2 Oklahoma City University to compete in the OCU Duals.
