ROJAS NETS PK GOAL AS MEN'S SOCCER TIES BENEDICTINE-SPRINGFIELD 1-1

ST. LOUIS- Oscar Rojas found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the second half, but the Missouri Baptist men's soccer team could not find the game winning goal, as they tied Benedictine-Springfield, 1-1. The Spartans are now 2-3-2 in AMC play and 6-4-3 overall.

Missouri Baptist outshot the Bulldogs, 23-7 during the game, including 11-5 in shots on goal. The Spartans were led offensively by Oscar Rojas, who netted his fifth goal of the season, and also had five shots on goal. Joe Wonsewith and Alen Palislamovic each had two shots on goal.

Danny Gustafson made his first collegiate start in net for the Spartans. He did not last long, as he picked up a red card just 22 minutes into the contest. That resulted in an ejection, which brought Corbin Rodriguez into the game. He made four saves in the game and gave up one goal.

Less than one minute into the game, Greg Kranz blasted a shot off the crossbar, keeping the Spartans off the scoreboard.

23 minutes into the game, the Spartans goalkeeper was given a red card after a foul inside the box. Rodriguez entered the game and faced a penalty kick by Guadelupe Canedo. He would put the Bulldogs on the board when he found the back of the net.

The Spartans trailed 1-0 at the break, but would not be denied in the second half.

With 23 minutes remaining in the contest, Oscar Rojas was fouled in the box, which would result in a penalty kick. He would tie the game up 1-1 when he netted his fifth goal of the year.

The two teams would play the remainder of the half tied, which sent the game into overtime.

In the first overtime, Joe Wonsewith clanked a shot off the crossbar, which would have won the game for MBU. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they were not able to get the ball into the net.

Corbin Rodriguez kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard late in the first overtime, when he made two saves within five seconds.

In the second overtime, Missouri Baptist had chances to end the game, but two shots in the final 30 seconds were saved by the Bulldog keeper.

The Spartans will look to carry tonight's momentum into Friday's contest against Freed-Hardeman. The two teams will kick off at 1:00 pm.
