ST. LOUIS – No. 6-ranked Missouri Baptist trailed for the entirety of Wednesday's dual against No. 2-ranked Oklahoma City and dropped a lopsided 38-6 decision on the road.
The Spartans entered Wednesday's dual as one of the top women's programs in the nation, but suffered its first dual defeat of the season. MBU dropped nine of the 10 bouts on the night.
The bright spot of the evening came at 123lbs as Missouri Baptist's Montana Drum won a 6-0 decision over OCU's Tanalei Louis. Drum is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation at her weight class.
Oklahoma City recorded three pins in the dual. At 109lbs, No. 2-ranked Kristi Garr posted the first of the night against MBU's Isabella Silva. At 116, MBU's Bree Rapoza, currently ranked No. 7, was pinned by No. 6-ranked Shelby Morrison. Finally, at 170, No. 3-ranked Cherese Thomas won by fall over MBU's Aylin Hernandez.
Seven of OCU's 10 wrestlers were ranked in the Top 10 of their respective weight classes. MBU featured five wrestlers in the Top 10 on the night (Rodriguez, Rapoza, Molinari, Avallone and Drum).
Missouri Baptist will now enjoy a sizeable break and will not return to action in over a month when they travel to Waldorf College on Jan. 4, 2014.
