WILLIAM WOODS EVENS SCORE WITH MBU

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist had issues controlling the fast-paced William Woods offense on Wednesday evening in a 82-66 loss at home.

Missouri Baptist (15-14) started off hot in the first half, especially thanks to LeAndre' Johnson. The senior led the team and scored 17 of the team's 34 points to carry the Spartans early.

MBU held a 10-6 lead at the beginning and pushed the advantage as high as seven, but the Owls came back. Seth Thomas posted nine in the first for William Woods and led his team back into the game. Aided by Logan Decker's two, three-pointers, the Owls ended the half with a 41-34 lead.

After the break, Missouri Baptist struggled to erase the deficit as the Owls continued to control the tempo. Decker carried over his momentum from the first half from three-point range. The senior went 2-3 for three in the final 20 minutes.

William Woods built a 64-50 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining and ran the lead up to 17 points just three minutes later. Missouri Baptist never recovered and dropped its second game of the last three.

William Woods was led offensively by Decker and Blake Burgess, who both finished the game with 14 points. Daniel Armah also had a big effort for the Owls. He snagged 10 rebounds and finished with 12 points.

The Spartans were led by LeAndre' Johnson. The St. Louis native finished with 22 points after a huge first half. Kalvin Lewis (15 points) was the only other to finish in double digits for MBU.

Missouri Baptist will finish the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Hannibal-LaGrange. A win will secure the team a home game in the quarterfinals of the AMC tournament. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
