SPARTAN SOFTBALL FINISHES ROAD TRIP STRONG

BATESVILLE, Ark. – After a quiet offensive day on Friday, the Missouri Baptist softball team turn the bats red hot as they picked up a pair of wins over the Lyon College Scots. MBU took the first game 10-3 and the second in just five innings 12-3.

Megan Wildhaber led the Spartans in game one. She started things off early with a single to start the game and later came around to score as part of a three run first inning to put the Scots away early. The senior from Beaufort, Mo. came up in the third inning with runners on second and third and hit a bases clearing double as MBU piled on five runs on five hits and two errors in the inning.

The Spartans would add one run in the sixth and one in the seventh to get the 10-3 victory in game one. Wildhaber went 4-4 with two RBI, three runs scored, three doubles and one stolen base. MBU starting pitcher Jena Trombley threw a complete game giving up two earned runs and striking out two batters.

Wildhaber led off game two with a triple to deep right-center field and the offensive was again the story of the day for the Spartans. MBU jumped out to the early lead in the first scoring two runs on two hits. MBU would pour on four more runs in the second innings and six more runs in the third inning to put the Scots in a hole to deep for them to get back from.

Starting Spartans pitcher Courtney Washington threw a complete game giving up three runs, but she can also hit. Washington went 3-3 and scored two runs in the game. Wildhaber went 1-2 with one RBI and two runs scored as she reached base in the second at-bat on a fielder's choice.

Missouri Baptist now moves to 7-5 on the season and 2-2 in the American Midwest Conference. The Spartans look to continue the wins on Monday, March 18 as they travel to Greenville, Ill. to take on the Greenville College Panthers. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
