ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist's men's basketball season came to an end on Saturday after falling to Park University in the second round of the AMC Tournament 76-65.
Missouri Baptist (17-15) started off strong with a 10-2 run, but Park responded with a 22-6 run to end the first half with a 36 to 27 lead. This run set the tone for the remainder of the contest and put the Spartans back on their heels.
While MBU improved in the second half, they were not able to catch fire in order to cut into the lead for longer than a few minutes. MBU trailed by six with over five minutes remaining on the clock, but that was as close as the team was able to get.
Park's rebounding played a factor in its win as they out-rebounded the Spartans 41 to 33. MBU committed 20 fouls, which allowed Park to shoot 23 for 28 at the free throw line.
Xavielle Brown of Park scored an impressive 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Venton Wilder added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals en route to the semi-final win. This was Brown's second 20-plus point outburst against the Spartans this season
Theodore King of MBU had a spectacular game, shooting 8 for 10 from the floor for 17 points. King also grabbed 2 steals. LeAndre Johnson added 16 points to conclude his MBU career.
The Spartans ended their season with a loss in the AMC Semifinal game for the second consecutive season.
