Game Recap: Softball |

SOFTBALL USES LATE SURGE TO GET PAIR OF WINS

MAYFIELD, Ky. – The Missouri Baptist softball team hoped to host their home openers this weekend, but due to the rain the games were moved to away locations. However, the Spartans did not get fazed and picked up a pair of wins on Saturday over Mid-Continent University 3-0 in game one and again 3-0 in game two.

Pitching led the way for MBU in both games. In game one, Courtney Washington threw a complete game one hitter for the Spartans. The freshman from Lebanon, Ill., had four strikeouts while only walking two batters.

The game was scoreless going to the seventh inning. The Spartans finally broke through when Donyelle DeMarse tripled to deep left field to score Sierra Thompson and put the Spartans on the board. Megan Wildhaber followed with a two-run homer over the left field fence to give MBU the game 3-0.

The second game was much like the first; the pitching for MBU led the way. Sophomore Jena Trombley threw a complete game allowing six hits.

As in the first game, the two teams matched zeros until the seventh inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, freshman Megan Medcalf roped a single to right field scoring Thompson and Toni Stang to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead. MBU added another run in the inning and won the game 3-0.

The two wins improved the Spartans' record to 5-3 on the season and gave them a three-game winning streak. MBU travels to Tennessee to take on Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday, March 12. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
