ST. LOUIS – Joe Wonsewith and the Missouri Baptist men's soccer team continued its unbeaten streak today, as the Spartans defeated Williams Baptist, 2-0. Wonsewith netted goals number 12 and 13 on the season, leading the Spartans to a 7-0-1 record and 2-0 in the AMC.
Corbin Rodriguez recorded a three-save shutout, his first shutout of the season.
Woneswith, who has now scored in all eight contests, got the Spartans on the board with 22 minutes remaining in the first half. Greg Kranz picked up his third assist of the season. It was Wonsewith's 11th goal of the year.
The Spartans widened the gap with 5:30 remaining in the contest, as Wonsewith blasted his 12th goal of the year, giving MBU a 2-0 lead.
Missouri Baptist had 10 shots on goal, led by Tyler Kuehner's three. Oscar Rojas and Wonsewith had two shots on goal, and Providence Tucker added one shot on goal.
Missouri Baptist will face one of its toughest opponents on the 2013 schedule, the Columbia College Cougars, on Tuesday at 1 pm. The Cougars are 4-2-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in AMC action. Columbia College tied Harris Stowe 1-1 on Friday.
