ST. LOUIS – Columbia College shot 58 percent on Saturday night as the Cougars rolled over the Missouri Baptist Spartan men's basketball squad 80-59.
Missouri Baptist (3-15, 3-6 AMC) struggled to put points on the board, especially in the first-half of Saturday's contest, but had major issues containing the hot-shooting Columbia College offense.
The Cougars, currently ranked No. 7 in the NAIA, played the Spartans relatively close in the first half, but exploded after the break. Columbia recorded a remarkable 73 percent shooting from the floor in the final 20 minutes to secure the road win.
The Spartans struggled mightily from the perimeter in the second half. MBU was just 2-11 from downtown after the break while Columbia knocked-down two of its three.
Columbia was led by Devin Griffin, the local product out of Fairview Heights, Ill. The Althoff Catholic graduate torched Missouri Baptist for 25 points, five rebounds and five steals. He led all scorers on the night and was followed by Gerardo Isla (17 points).
Missouri Baptist was led by Kalvin Lewis on the night. Lewis picked-up 14 points in this one while Chris Buzzell finished with 11.
Missouri Baptist will now enjoy two more home games in a row before heading back out onto the road. The team will now host Mid-Continent on Thursday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
