SPARTANS STUMBLE AGAINST 11-RANKED LIONS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist men's basketball shot just 30 percent from the floor on Thursday night as the team dropped its first American Midwest Conference game to No. 11-ranked Freed-Hardeman 98-60.

Missouri Baptist began the game looking to keep pace, but the Lions took over near the halfway point of the first half. MBU began the game with a three-pointer by freshman standout, Chris Buzzell and led 6-4 after Corey McKinney's three, but this was the final time that the home team held the lead.

The Spartans entered the second half down by 17 and continued to have difficulty with the size of the Lions. Freed-Hardeman featured 10 players that stood 6'5" or taller, which the visitors used to their advantage. FHU dominated the rebound battle, pulling down 53 to Missouri Baptist's 30.

Overall, the Lions showed dominance in the low post, where the team outscored Missouri Baptist 52-18 on the night. Much of that success was due to a big night by Orlando Bass. The junior from Oakland, Tenn., posted 23 on the way to the lopsided win.

Missouri Baptist was led by Buzzell. The freshman posted 20 points to lead all MBU scorers. Kalvin Lewis posted 14 on the night and rounded-out the players in double figures.

Missouri Baptist will now head out on the road to William Woods to play the Owls on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
