SPARTANS HOLD EAGLES TO TWO GOALS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist men's soccer team fell into an early deficit on Saturday and never recovered in a 2-0 lists to Williams Baptist (Ark.) at home.

Missouri Baptist (1-12-2, 1-7) struggled to keep-up with the Eagles in terms of shots throughout Saturday evening's contest. Missouri Baptist was outshot 11-3, but saw a solid performance out of net minder, Zack Koeller. Koeller held Williams Baptist to two goals with three saves on the evening.

Williams Baptist grabbed the lead early and never let go. Matheus Assumpcao put the Eagles on top 1-0 with just three minutes off the clock in the first half. The Spartans recorded just one shot on goal and three overall in the first 45 minutes before heading to the break in a one-goal hole.

Missouri Baptist began the second half with new life, however. Though MBU was outshot on the whole, the team recorded five shots on goal in the second-half alone. None of which, however, found its way to the back of the twine.

As a team, MBU outshot Williams Baptist 6-5 in shots on goal in the contest.

The Eagles' lead remained at one until Assumpcao scored his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute to ice the win.

The Spartans will play again at CBC on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, against Benedictine University-Springfield at 2:00 p.m.
