ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist University women's soccer handed the Pirates their second conference loss of the season on Saturday, thanks to a big second-half goal by Taylor Giese to give the Spartans a 3-2 win.
MBU (9-4-3, 9-1-1) struck first as Melissa Patchin started things off in the fifth minute with the first goal of the game to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Park University answered back with the equalizer by Bridget Steiner just four minutes later to tie the match at one.
Missouri Baptist dominated the pace of play and capitalized on their ball control once again before the half ended. Donna Jolliff gave the Spartans the lead again as she found the net just as the first half came to a close.
Missouri Baptist continued on the attack in the second half and added, what appeared to be an insurance goal at the time. Taylor Giese scored for MBU to to put the Spartans up 3-1. Down the stretch, however, Park closed the gap as Libby Gale found the back of the Spartan net in the 79th minute to cut the lead to 3-2. That, however, was as close as it got as the home team clinched second place in the AMC and home field advantage in the AMC playoffs for the forseeable future.
MBU's Kathryn Kessler held her ground between the posts only allowing Park two goals. Kessler recorded one save in the game.
The team will continue regular season with a game at St. Ambrose University on Monday, October 27, 2014. The team will travel to Davenport, Iowa to face the Fighting Bees.
