ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist men's soccer came-up one goal shy yet again on Friday as the team dropped another tough loss to Freed-Hardeman, 2-1.
The Spartans controlled the first half as they held the lead through to the end of the half. Yet with the strong comback of the Lions in the second half, the lead was closed as the game came to an end.
Missouri Baptist (0-9-2, 0-4 AMC) started off well in the first half as Alen Palislamovic scored the only goal for the Spartans just over eleven minutes into the game. The Spartans went into half time on top as goalie John Schnurbush held the Lions with two saves.
MBU came out flat after the half as the Lions outshot the Spartans seven to one. Freed-Hardeman's (FHU) own Jermaine Steele was able to find his way to the back of the Spartan net twice. In the end, Missouri Baptist was unable to obtain the equalizing goal to send the game into overtime, and fell to FHU 2-1.
John Schnurbusch started in the net for the Spartans and allowed just two goals on four saves.
Next up for the Spartans will be an AMC showdown against cross-town rival, Harris-Stowe, on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. The game is set to begin at 2:00 pm on CBC field.
