ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] On a night that Missouri Baptist men's basketball hit 10 three-pointers, No. 3-ranked Freed Hardeman shot 53 percent from the floor and defeated the Spartans 92-74 on Thursday evening.
Missouri Baptist (5-18, 4-9 AMC) came up big from three-point range in the first half, but was unable to carry that momentum into the final 20 minutes. The team knocked-down 58 percent of its' shots from behind the arc in the opening period, but coughed-up 11 turnovers and trailed by 11 heading into the break.
MBU leading scorer Kalvin Lewis went 2-4 from three point range on the night and led the team with 18 points. He, along with Corey McKinney and Chris Buzzell all finished in double-digits.
The three-point shooting cooled in the second half as the Freed-Hardeman lead increased. Two three-balls by Freed-Hardeman's Damien Wooten in a span of 40 seconds deepened the Spartan deficit to 16 on the way to the 18-point loss.
FHU out-rebounded Missouri Baptist 37-31 overall and posted 17 assists in Thursday's game. The Lions were coming-off just their second loss of the season on Tuesday. This was their second win over Missouri Baptist this season.
The Spartans will now return home after an 0-3 road swing. The team will tip-off against William Woods on Saturday night. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
