WILLIAM WOODS COMPLETES SEASON SWEEP OF SPARTANS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] After trailing at the half by just three points to William Woods, Missouri Baptist men's basketball was unable to close the gap in a 75-64 loss in AMC play.

Missouri Baptist (6-19, 5-10 AMC) led for much of the first half of play, but forfeited the lead with just over two minutes to play and never recovered. The Spartans did shoot 54 percent overall, but was unable to get back into it.

William Woods led by as many as 16 points in the final 20 minutes and took control thanks to outstanding play from Blake Burgess and Jonathon Nutt. Burgess led all scorers with 19 points while Nutt finished with 18.

Missouri Baptist had issues from the perimeter for the entirety of the contest. MBU shot just 28 percent from downtown in the game.

The Spartans were led by Kalvin Lewis. The senior was the lone MBU player who finished in double digits (13 points, 9 rebounds). One of the bright spots, however, was the Missouri Baptist shooting at the free throw line. The team connected on 71 percent of its 14 opportunities on the night.

With the loss, MBU will now drop to ninth in the conference, just one spot out of hosting a conference playoff game.

Missouri Baptist will now have a couple of days to recuperate as Williams Baptist comes to town on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
