ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist wrapped-up the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday with a 101-69 loss at the hands of No. 4-ranked Columbia College.
Missouri Baptist (7-23, 6-14 AMC) gave the Cougars a bit of a scare in the first half and led for the first 10 minutes, but could not maintain the momentum. The Spartans led by as many as six after a three-pointer by Jahmari Gordon, but Columbia College fought back.
Columbia's Jeremy Nolen posted 27 points in the game and led the No. 4 Cougar attack. In 22 minutes of playing time, Nolen went 11-16 from the floor while the team as a whole finished with a 49 percent field goal percentage.
Missouri Baptist entered the half with a 14-point deficit and was unable to climb back into it. The Spartans shot 46 percent from the floor as a team in the first half, but rocky second-half shooting sealed the fate for MBU.
Columbia did all of the little things right in the game. The team went 17-21 from the charity stripe down the stretch and forced Missouri Baptist into a bad situation.
With the loss, the Spartans will now head out on the road to William Woods in the Opening Round of the AMC Tournament. Missouri Baptist is the No. 9-seed in the tournament. The teams will face each other on Tuesday evening and the winner will move-on to face the Columbia Cougars on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
