SPARTANS SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Spartans hold their own in competing with the No. 8 and No. 11 teams in the nation and fall just short of coming out with the win.

In the first half of the game Missouri Baptist (MBU) held their own as MidAmerica Nazarene (MNU) was on the attack.  Having two saves in the first half was goalie John Schnurbush.  Jamie Skillen stepped up to block a shot from the Pioneers as well.

Following the first half, the Spartans continued to hold the Pioneers to no score, but had a few chances of their own to try to find some net.  Despite all efforts the Spartans couldn't seem to break through, but again held MNU to no score forcing the game into overtime.

Overtime was short as it only lasted four minutes.  Enough time for the Pioneers to come out with a quick attack that broke through the Spartan defense that brought the game to a close.

Leading on the stat boards for MBU was Jamie Skillen having two shots with one on goal and Joe Wonsewith having one shot.  Goalie, John Schnurbush, had two saves on the day with only one goal against.

"The boys played with tremendous heart and work rate. We competed with No. 11 in the nation and had a chance to win it with a few minutes left…" concluded Head Coach Alvernia.  Missouri Baptist will play in the LSU Alexandria Tournament next weekend on August 30, 2014, at 1 pm against Central Baptist College-Arkansas.
