THE GAME: Missouri Baptist University will play its fourth football game in the inaugural 2014 season on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 against William Penn University in St. Louis, Mo. at 1:00 p.m. This will be the third game of the season for the Statesmen and the fourth for the Spartans. Harry Schroeder and Coach Rich Nixon, the home voices of Missouri Baptist Football, will be on the call for MBU. John Ottosson and Greg Haffner will be on the radio call for the Statesmen.
MAKING HISTORY: Missouri Baptist Football made history on Aug. 28, 2014 at NCAA Division I FCS opponent Southeast Missouri State in the team's first game in team history. MBU dropped that game 77-0 in Cape Girardeau in front of a crowd of over 7,000. Today's game will be the fourth game in the career of head coach Jason Burianek. MBU is still looking to post its first win of the season after recording its first passing touchdown in team history last week. Missouri Baptist, as a whole, is celebrating its 50-year anniversary in 2014.
WILLIAM PENN: The Statesmen enter today's game as the No. 20-ranked team in the NAIA. The team busted into the Top 25 this past week after a thrilling 28-27 win over then No. 6-ranked University of Saint Francis (Ind.).
The team boasts a rush-heavy offense after gaining 482 yards on the ground a week ago against the Cougars. Eight players recorded rushing yards a week ago, five of which recorded over 50 yards on the ground. Hunter Collins and Tyler Hafner split Quarterback duties and combined for six pass attempts and 22 yards in the air.
FOR THE RECORD: William Penn has the top rushing offense in the NAIA, averaging over 421 yards on the ground per game. In three games, the Statesmen have gained 1,265 yards on the ground.
Missouri Baptist gave up 398 yards on the ground a week ago to Oklahoma Baptist. It was the first time the Spartans gave-up over 300 yards on the ground in a single game in team history.
