SPARTANS FALL TO NO. 1 MARTIN METHODIST

ST. LOUIS [BOX SCORE] - The Missouri Baptist men's soccer team took on Martin Methodist, who is currently rank number one in the NAIA.

Through the first half the Spartans were hustling on defense as the Red Hawks were able to get off 22 shots with 11 on goal as Joe Wonsewith for MBU was only able to get one shot off for the Spartans at the very end of the first half.

The second half looked very much like the first as Martin Methodist did not let up on the Spartans. At the beginning of the half the Red Hawks were able to get through the Spartans defense to score their lone goal of the game.  Missouri Baptist however never let up trying to find that net as Ryan Krupp took a shot with four minutes left in the half, but didn't make it through.

On the stat line Joe Wonsewith and Ryan Krupp both had one shot for the Spartans.  Goalie, John Schnurbush, held the Red Hawks with twelve saves.

In the end, "the boys fought hard against the No. 1 Martin Methodist University, defending champs. We generated a few good chances, but couldn't find the final quality to put it in the net.  We showed grit and character in defending" says Coach Alvernia.

MBU next faces Cumberland University in the Martin Methodist Tournament on Saturday, September 6, 2014.
