ST. LOUIS [BOX SCORE] – Spartans fall to 0-3-2 as the team struggles to find the goal against Cumberland University with a final score of 4-1.
Missouri Baptist started off the half strong as the Spartans started taking shots from the very beginning, but couldn't find their way through. However the Bulldogs were able to find their way through the Spartans defense to get two goals at the beginning of the first half.
Although MBU came back ready to take the field at the second half, Cumberland found the net again. Jumping right back into the game the Spartans answered back with a goal scored by Gerardo Espinoza. The Spartans fought through the rest of the half but to no avail as the Bulldogs scored yet another goal as the game came to a close.
Gerardo Espinoza scored his first career goal with three shots and one on goal. Also on the stat line Joseph Wonsewith had three shots with one on goal, Jamie Skillen had 3 shots with two on goal and one assist, Terrance Brown had three shots, Alen Palislamovic had one shot with one on goal, Mats Mehus had one shot with one on goal, and Sean Taylor had two shots with one goal. Dwight Degazon, Jose Villatoro, and Brian Jurado all had one shot in the game. Goalie, John Schnurbusch, had ten saves on the game.
"We controlled the game, but could not take our chances. They scored three opportunistic goals and we couldn't recover" says Coach Alvernia.
