SPARTANS DOMINATE EUTECTICS IN LOPSIDED WIN

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Josh Phillips and Sean Taylor each recorded hat tricks, as Missouri Baptist dominated St. Louis College of Pharmacy 10-0 Saturday night at CBC Field.

The Spartans (3-10) dominated from start to finish, pouring in seven of their 10 goals in the second half. Missouri Baptist only allowed the Eutectics to record three shots in the entire match, while firing off 34 shots of its own.

Josh Phillips put the Spartans on the board in the 17th minute. He headed in a corner kick from Connar Armstrong to break the early scoreless tie.

Thales Teixeira and Yuri Pecanha entered into the game in the 31st minute and helped jolt the Spartan offense to two more goals before the end of the half. Teixeira scored in the 33rd minute off a cross on the right wing from Ben Boyd.

Pecanha's shot moments later deflected off the goalie but he stuck with it and followed it into the net to put the Spartans up 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

The Spartans were even more dominant after the break, scoring seven times on 22 shots. They spent virtually the entire half on the attack, allowing the Eutectics to only muster two total shots.

Phillips started the scoring with his second goal of the game in the 51st minute. The ball found him right in the center of the box after Chad Otec's header deflected off the post.

Sean Taylor then took over as the main offensive weapon for Missouri Baptist. He scored three of the Spartans next four goals to eventually put the team ahead 8-0. Taylor's first and third goal were unassisted, while his second goal formed off a cross from Mike Maldonado.

Mixed in with Taylor's trio of goals was a score from Gerardo Espinoza off a pass from Ben Boyd. Phillips scored his third and final goal in the 81st minute to put the Spartans ahead 9-0 and Tyler Lewis tallied the game's final goal in the 87th minute to cap things off.

The Spartans return to action Wednesday afternoon against Columbia College. The match is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
