ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The No. 1 Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team swept the No. 8 seed in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-21) on Tuesday on the Spartan home court where the Academic All-Conference honorees were recognized.
The Spartans (33-3, 12-0) started off on the right foot in set one as the team held the Lions to a negative hitting percentage in the set. Missouri Baptist held Freed-Hardeman to three kills compared to the Spartans 13.
MBU continued to show their dominance in set two and held FHU to a hitting percentage of 0 while Missouri Baptist recorded its highest hitting percentage of the match (0.357).
The Lions attempted to make a comeback in set three. MBU, however, stepped up to the challenge and continued to a set three win. FHU notched their highest total of kills in the set with nine. Freed-Hardeman also recorded its highest hitting percentage of the match (0.172) as Missouri Baptist was held to their lowest (0.194).
MBU was strong from the service line with 11 total service aces compared to the Lions three.
The AMC Academic All-Conference members from both teams were honored before the start of the match. To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference award, student-athletes must be in their AMC institution and have at least a 3.0 GPA.
The Spartans that were awarded Academic All-Conference honors were: Shannon Alley, Jen Brendel, Hannah Carey, Shelby Clifton, Taylor Cook, Mallory Dillon, Mary Grace Graf, Mercedes Jones, Mary Krause, Ally Krus, Kristina Medanovic, Logan Mennemeyer, Haley Pouliezos, Hailey Townsend, Catie Ward, and Bree Whittington.
Dillon led the Spartans with 13 kills on the night. Carey followed close behind Dillon with 10 kills of her own. The right side also notched an impressive 0.412 hitting percentage with only three errors off of 17 swings. Medanovic also contributed to the Spartan offense with nine kills.
Krus notched 29 total assists on the night for an average of 9.67 assists per set.
Pouliezos was not slowed down as she notched 20 total digs on the night for an average of 6.67 digs per set.
Missouri Baptist will return to action on Friday, Nov. 13 in the AMC Semifinal against Williams Baptist (Ark.). The Semifinal will be hosted at Park University (Mo.) in Parkville, Mo.
