ST. LOUIS – Sarah Bollinger and Savanna Barr each recorded victories for Missouri Baptist to lead the Spartans past Lindenwood-Belleville 39-9 Wednesday night in Lacey Gymnasium.
The win marked the third time this season Missouri Baptist has defeated the short-handed Lindenwood-Belleville squad. The Lynx had to forfeit six weight classes, allowing the Spartans to earn 30 points.
That turned out to be all Missouri Baptist would need, but they also earned nine more points in four combined fierce matches. Barr defeated Sam Rebentisch of Lindenwood-Belleville in the 109-pound class by a 12-5 decision. That helped the Spartans jump out to an 8-1 early lead.
Samantha Diaz lost her battle with Juliana Olivo in a close 5-4 decision, but still picked up a point to keep the Spartans out in front 9-4 after the 116-pound class. Three forfeits followed before Bollinger made quick work of Claudia Gallegos. She defeated Gallegos by fall in 2:00 to tack on five more points to the Spartan lead.
Bollinger's win put the Spartans ahead 29-4 and they would go on to win by a final of 39-9. Missouri Baptist returns to the mat Dec. 17 in the US Open Tournament.
