PARKVILLE, Mo. – [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team swept Hannibal LaGrange 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-10) in the NAIA South Conference opening round on Friday evening at the Breckon Sports Center.
In set one, the Trojans played with MBU until a crucial block by Kevin Knight gave Missouri Baptist the two-point lead. After that point, it was an uphill climb for the Trojans. MBU showed just why it was named co-regular season winners by holding Hannibal-LaGrange to four kills and an 0.050 hitting percentage for a 25-16 set one win.
Shane Welch started things off for Missouri Baptist with a kill in set two. Missouri Baptist continued to capitalize on that to hold the lead through the entirety of the set only allowing Hannibal-LaGrange to get as close as three points. MBU closed out yet another set win with a 25-14 final score.
The Spartans transferred the momentum from sets one and two into the third set for an early lead. Hannibal-LaGrange began to close the scoring gap, but a lineup card issue was found with the Trojans, which, in-turn, returned their score back to zero. MBU with a now 13-0 lead, continued to move forward and took the game 25-10. Josh Comer put the final nail in the coffin with the set point kill.
Mico janicijevic led the Spartans with 14 kills and a .478 attacking percentage. Chris Flood followed Janicijevic with eight kills of his own. Shane Welch posted a 0.429 hitting percentage with four kills, seven total attempts, and only one error.
Missouri Baptist will play in the NAIA South Conference championship match tomorrow at noon. MBU will face the winner of the Lindenwood University – Bellevile and Park University match.
