THE GAME: Missouri Baptist University will play its third game of the 2015 season and its first MSFA Conference Crossover game against St. Francis (Ill.) on Sept. 19, 2015 in Joliet, Ill. The game will be the second of a three-game road swing for the Spartans.
TURNING THE CORNER: Missouri Baptist Football did a lot of growing over the course of its first bye week. After allowing Siena Heights 35 first-half points, the Spartans pulled themselves out of the hole and rattled-off 21 consecutive points, led by two defensive scores, and made it a 35-28 game in the fourth quarter. MBU was in it until the final minute of the game, but dropped a tough one to the defending MSFA MidEast Division Co-Champion, 42-35.
SCOUTING SAINT FRANCIS: The Fighting Saints grabbed its first win of the season, the first over a non-NAIA opponent since 2011, in a 13-10 win over NCAA Division II Lincoln University (Mo.).
The ground attack was strong for the Fighting Saints. The team produced 232 yards of total rushing offense, led by John Magee's 105 yards on 24 carries. Quarterback Don Butkus rushed for 79 yards, including a 53-yard run in the win.
Butkus is the primary offensive weapon for USF. So far this season, the sophomore has 415 yards of passing and four touchdowns.
FOR THE RECORD: Kalen Petty recorded two MBU records last week with Most Reception Yards (144) and Most Touchdowns (3)... Eddie Calderon recorded a record 74 return yards off two interceptions and a touchdown last week... The MBU defense recorded two defensive touchdowns last week, the most in team history... Jordan Norwine completed his first game as a starter.
