St. Charles, Mo. [BOX SCORE] – The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team defeated Lindenwood University (Mo.) 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 16-25, 25-21) at the Highland Arena on Tuesday.
The Spartans came out ready to play in set one and started with a 7-1 run. MBU held that lead and finished with a strong 25-16 set win.
Missouri Baptist posted its highest hitting percentage of the match at 0.500 and held the Lions to their lowest at 0.121.
LU tried to make an advance on the Spartans in set two but Missouri Baptist maintained the momentum from the previous set and took set two 25-21.
The team's only had a 0.050 difference in hitting percentage though the second set.
Lindenwood came out of the locker room hot and went on a 5-0 run to get things started. Although the Spartans tried to close out the match with a sweep, the Lions swiped set three away.
LU recorded its highest hitting percentage of the match of 0.478 and most kills with 14.
The score remained close in set four with seven scoring ties as Lindenwood battled to stay alive. The Spartans, however, were too much for the Lions as they pulled away and took set four 25-21.
Missouri Baptist held LU to eight kills in the set. The lowest number the Lions recorded on the night.
Chris Flood led the Spartans with 14 kills, two service aces and five digs. Mico Janicijevic followed Flood with 12 kills of his own.
Robert Hall led the defensive effort with nine digs and a receive percentage of 1.000 with 14 attempts and no errors.
Kyle Foley recorded 41 assists for an impressive 10.25 assists per set. The setter also led the team in service aces on the night as he recorded four.
MBU will return to its home court on Saturday, January 23, to face No. 2 ranked Grand View University.
