GAME PREVIEW: MBU AT OLIVET NAZARENE

Missouri Baptist (2-4) at Olivet Nazarene (2-4)

THE GAME: Missouri Baptist University will play the seventh game of its 2016 schedule on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00pm when they face the Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) Tigers in Bourbannais, Ill.

FIRST WIN STREAK: Missouri Baptist needed overtime to overcome a series of mistakes in the fourth quarter last Saturday to take down the Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx on the road. The Spartans turned the ball over five times, but were able to get ones of their own on defense in the final minutes to give the team a chance. Eddie Calderon intercepted a pass in the end zone with just seconds remaining on the clock to force overtime.

OVERTIME WINNER: Shawn Calhoun caught the game-winning touchdown in overtime and gave his team a much-needed boost to victory. Then, on the final drive of the game, Dominic Aguirre forced the key fumble as a one-handed Keenan Savage secured the loose football to ice the game for the Spartans.

SCOUTING OLIVET NAZARENE: The Tigers are coming off a big 27-24 win over Trinity International (Ill.) a week ago and are looking for their own win streak this season. The team is led by freshman quarterback Jordan Lawton. The 5-11 signal-caller has thrown for 10 touchdowns this season and is averaging just over 213 yards per game in the air. Overall, Lawton leads all quarterbacks, of the five that have recorded statistics in 2016, with a passer efficiency rating of 141.2.

Wide receiver Rashaan Gaymon has been the main threat in the passing game in 2016. The sophomore from Capr Coral, Fla., has averaged 79 yards per game this season.

Linebacker Sebastian Swift has also been a force in 2016. He currently leads the MSFA Midwest Division in tackles with 67.

FOR THE RECORD: MBU is is looking for three wins for the first time in team history.. Gunnar Griffin became the second Spartan to earn MSFA Mideast Player of the Week honors in team history... Griffin became the first 400-yard passer in team history, leading the team to a 43-42 win over Taylor.
