Box Score ST. LOUIS- [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Women's Volleyball took on The Master's University (Calif.) (TMU) on Friday afternoon and came away with a four-set victory (17-25, 25-18, 17-25, 22-25) for win number 20 on the season.
There was a feeling out process to the first frame as neither team could break away for the majority of the set. The tide turned, however, at 14-14 when Megan Huffman went back to serve for MBU. The redshirt freshman rattled off three straight aces and the Spartans didn't look back from there. They went on a 7-0 run and eventually closed out the set 25-17.
The Mustangs rebounded in the second stanza. Similar to the opening set, neither team could break away. At 10-10, three straight attack errors by Missouri Baptist gave TMU the momentum. The Spartans played catch-up the rest of the set before eventually falling 25-18.
Tied at 1 set apiece, MBU decided to lean on Tina Medanovic and the nation's leader in hitting percentage took over. The junior produced 10 total kills in the third and fourth sets to propel the Spartans to a 3-1 victory. Missouri Baptist led by as many as 10 in set three and as many six late in set four. The Mustangs clawed their way back to 24-22 in the fourth frame before a final kill from Medanovic crushed the visitor's hopes of a comeback.
Senior Mallory Dillon led the Spartans in total kills for the match with 16. She also chipped in five digs to go along and two aces from the service line.
Tina Medanovic finished with 12 kills on 17 total attempts. This was the eighth time this season the Serbian has hit over .600 in a match.
Freshman Cate Cigarini was the third Spartan to reach double-digits in kills on Friday. The Italian posted 12 on 26 attempts and added three aces as well.
Megan Huffman once again led the Spartans in assists with 41. Huffman also contributed three aces to tie for the team lead.
Senior Natalie Gremaud anchored the defense with 27 digs.
Missouri Baptist improved to 20-4 on the season. They'll be back at it on Saturday as the Spartan Invitational continues. MBU will face No. 9 Grand View at 2 pm followed by a match with No. 5 Lindsey Wilson College at 4 pm.
