ST. LOUIS – [DAY 1 RESULTS] [DAY 2 RESULTS] Women's Wrestling took 7th place at the Patriot Duals hosted by University of the Cumberlands this past weekend. The Spartans went 4-4 overall at the tournament, dropping three of the four duals by a mere five combined points.
As noted above, the three close losses could have resulted in a few more wins for the navy and white. Despite it, MBU notched three wins on day one, all three in a row to start the tourney.
MBU opened with a 33-14 win over Emmanuel College. After falling behind 14-0, they roared back with 33 unanswered points. Tam Tillman, Cheyenne Youngblood, Montana Drum and Sarah Bollinger all recorded wins, mixed in with three victories via forfeit.
A dominant 36-5 win over Ferrum followed along with a 27-14 victory over Missouri Valley. Against Ferrum, Marisela Delayo-Fierro, Bernice Blanco and Darcie Manning O'Brien all won by tech fall to end the match. MBU trailed 13-10 to MoVal, but consecutive wins by Drum, Bollinger, Blanco and Manning O'Brien sealed the win.
A tough 34-9 loss to the eventual champions King University and a close 22-21 loss to Cumberlands ended the day on Friday. MBU led 21-18 into the final match against Cumberlands before falling in a heartbreaker.
The Spartans lost another close 23-20 match to start the day on Saturday and then a narrow 21-20 defeat to Lindenwood later. They finished the weekend on a high note however, defeating Missouri Valley once again in the 7th place match 30-15.
Next up for MBU is a home dual against Wentworth Military Academy on Wednesday, November 16th.
