ELSAH, Ill. – [BOX SCORE] After a nice start on the road at University of Missouri S&T, the Spartans struggled to keep pace. The Miners held the Spartans to 32 percent on the way to a 70-47 win over Missouri Baptist.
The Spartans entered the game 2-1, but ran into a talented NCAA D-II Miners squad. Missouri S&T's gritty defense caused 20 Missouri Baptist turnovers in their third win of the season.
Shay Robinson led the Spartans on the day. The junior out of Decatur, Ill., posted 10 points on the day and was the lone player to reach double figures for the visitors.
Missouri Baptist trailed by just four after the first quarter of play, but the Miners took control beginning in the second frame. Missouri S&T outscored the Spartans 17-8 prior to the half and took a commanding 32-21 lead heading into the break.
The Miners were led by Janie Arand. The St. Francis Borgia product netted 21 points and was one of two to reach double-digit totals.
Missouri Baptist is in the midst of perhaps its toughest stretch of the 2016-17 campaign as they face three consecutive NCAA Division II opponents. The next game up for the Spartans will be its second in this road swing against Southwest Baptist (Mo.). Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Bolivar, Mo.
