ST. LOUIS- [BOX SCORE] No. 14 Missouri Baptist Women's Volleyball fell to No. 3 Hastings College in four sets in the final match of pool play on Thursday afternoon (25-15, 25-18, 16-25, 25-18). Despite the loss, MBU will have another chance to qualify for single-elimination by way of a one-set tiebreak on Thursday night. They will meet the winner of a one-set tiebreak between Union and Jamestown. 

After watching Union defeat Jamestown in four sets in the first match of the day, the Spartans knew their tournament had a second life. Now guaranteed of at least a tiebreak-set, MBU came out of the gates slow against the No. 3 seed Broncos.

Hastings led by as many as 11 in the opening frame and as many as seven in set two. They cruised into set three ahead 2-0 in the match.

The Spartans woke up for the third set and played like a different team. They manhandled the Broncos on the way to a 25-16 victory. MBU opened up a 10-2 lead early and never looked back. Hastings had yet to drop a set in pool play prior to Thursday.

The loss appeared to knock Hastings out of their groove, but only temporarily. The Broncos regrouped and dashed MBU's comeback hopes with a 25-18 fourth set victory.  

On the stat sheet, Marion Couraud led the Spartans in kills with 11. Four players reached double-digits in digs, led by Natalie Gremaud with 17. Couraud collected a double-double with 16 digs.

The Spartans fell to 1-2 in pool play but still have a chance to qualify for single-elimination. After pool play concludes on Thursday night, Union (1-2) and Jamestown (1-2) will play a one-set tiebreak to 25. That set will begin at about 10 pm. After a 45 minute warmup, MBU will meet the winner in a one-set tiebreak, also to 25. The Spartans finished pool play with the highest set winning percentage among the three tied teams.
