ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Spartans were held to a season-low 53 points and 31.5 percent shooting Thursday night in the team's 67-53 loss to Lyon College.

Missouri Baptist (13-9, 8-6) got off to a sluggish start offensively and couldn't recover. The Scots (7-14, 4-11) outscored the Spartans by 14 in the second half, led by 20 points from Joe Burt.

Pablo Hernandez recorded the Spartans first bucket of the game with 9:30 already gone by in the first half. However, that brought MBU within a point at 5-4, as both team's struggled to find any offensive rhythm early on.

Lyon ballooned its lead to eight with 3:09 left in the half, but a late 10-2 Spartan run tied the game at 21-21 heading into halftime. Momentum seemed to be shifting toward the home team, but the Spartans never would take a lead.

The Scots scored the first five points in the second half to set the tone for the remaining 20 minutes. While the Spartans continued to struggle offensively (34 percent shooting in the second half), the Scots shot 59 percent in the final 20 minutes, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

A bucket from Hernandez got MBU within one at 28-27 with 15:22 to go, but Lyon responded with a 10-0 run over the next six minutes to break the game open. Hernandez finished with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the loss. John Caraballo also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Outside of Jared White, who finished with 15 points, no other Spartan had more than five.

Burt's field goal with 8:45 left extended the Lyon lead to 40-30 and the Spartans couldn't get back within single digits. Cash Krueger and Riley Jenkins joined Burt in double figures with 11 and 10 points each. Burt and Jenkins also each registered 10+ rebounds to notch double-doubles.

The Spartans get a chance to bounce-back on Saturday at home against Central Baptist. Tip is set for 4:00 pm.
