SPARTANS PROTECT HOME COURT YET AGAIN

Box Score

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] A strong second half helped the Spartans protect home court yet again, downing Williams Baptist 83-66 Thursday night. MBU outscored the Eagles by 16 after halftime to win its fourth straight game.

Chris Buzzell led the MBU (11-7, 5-5 AMC) attack with 18 points behind four 3-pointers. Johnny Benson and Jared White followed closely behind with 17 points each. The duo also combined for 15 rebounds.

Similar to Saturday's win over Harris-Stowe, MBU found its offensive rhythm in the second half. The Spartans shot 57.6 percent after halftime to turn a one-point lead to a 17-point win. The 3-ball was a reliable weapon in the big half (7-of-13).

A half-court heave from Dominique Dyes found the bottom of the net right before half to get the Eagles within a point at 35-34. Dyes also capped a 7-0 run for the Eagles with 11:52 remaining to tie the game at 52. The Spartans hot-shooting hadn't yet shook the away team.

Luckily for Spartan fans, the buckets kept falling for the navy and white. Luke Call and White scored the final 10 points of a momentum-changing 14-0 run to break the game open. Sophomore Pablo Hernandez also had a basket during the stretch and finished with nine points and four rebounds in his season debut.

A bucket from the Eagles stopped the bleeding for a second, but the run meter hit 24-2 in the Spartans favor after a bucket from David Gabrovsek. Nine of Benson and White's points came in the second half. The main distributor of the scoring was Will Harrington, who finished with nine assists.

Call hit three more 3-pointers in this game and finished with 11 points. Marquez Chew led the Eagles with 11 points. WBC shot 40.3 percent for the game and 17.6 percent from 3-point range.

The Spartans game scheduled against Freed-Hardeman for Saturday has been cancelled. MBU will next be in action on Tuesday at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Tip is set for 7:30 pm.
