Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Freshman Hasaan DeCarolis scored a team-high 18 points, all in the second half, to help Missouri Baptist pull away from St. Louis College of Pharmacy Thursday afternoon. The Spartans notched their second straight win with a 99-65 victory.
The 5-10 guard out of St. Charles West entered the game with 12:43 remaining and MBU (9-7, 3-5 AMC) leading the Eutectics (0-9, 0-7 AMC) 54-41. Thanks to DeCarolis's strong defense and outside shooting (5-5 3pt FG), MBU outscored the visiting team 45-24 the rest of the way. Hasaan also dished out three assists and picked up two steals.
Several other members of the Spartan bench also helped contribute to the team's strong second half. After a poor shooting first half (38.1 percent), MBU shot a 58.3 percent on a blistering 10-of-16 mark from 3-point land. Luke Call hit three of his five 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 15 points. James McKelvin also hit a triple after halftime and finished with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Prior to the entrance of DeCarolis, the Spartans struggled to put away the visitors. STLOP, who came in shooting just over 31 percent on the year, made 14 of their 33 attempts in the first half for a 42.4 percent clip. The winless squad trailed by just six- 36-30 with three minutes left till halftime.
A late 6-0 run from the Spartans pushed the halftime lead to 44-32. Chris Buzzell scored a team-high 12 points in the first half and finished with 14. Jared White (11 points) and Johnny Benson (10 points) also finished in double-figures.
STLCOP received strong performances from Kyle Jones (20 points) and Colton Frazer (15 points). The duo helped keep the deficit to 13 in the first eight minutes of the half, until MBU pulled away late.
The Spartans will look to make it three straight wins on Saturday at home against Harris-Stowe. Tip is set for 3:00 pm.
