Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

SPARTANS SPLIT DAY ONE OF COLUMBIA FALL CLASSIC

ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] [BOX SCORE] Women's Volleyball made their way to Columbia, Mo. to compete in the Cougars Fall Classic. They faced Westmont College (Calif.) first at 1 pm, then MidAmerica Nazarene University at 5 pm.

The Spartans faced some tough competition in the first matchup, as they took on the No. 6 Westmont Warriors. It was a game of back-and-forth with MBU taking sets two and four, and MNU taking sets one and three, pushing the game to a tiebreaking set.

Both teams hit the court for the fifth set with adrenaline running high. The largest lead was by only three points, and the set was tied on six separate occasions. It was anybody's game. However, after a kill from Samantha Neely, the Warriors sealed the deal and took the match 15-12.

After a tough loss, the Spartans saddled up for their second match of the day. Missouri Baptist bounced back, taking the win against the Pioneers in three sets.

As far as statistics go, MBU had a solid day offensively and defensively. Marion Couraud led the way on the offensive end, clocking in 26 kills. Tina Medanovic followed close behind with 24. The senior middle blocker led the Spartans in blocks, as well, with nine total.

Rachel Luebbers and MaryGrace Masters led the back line with 29 and 25 digs, respectively.

Rachel Poole finished the day with a whopping 206 total assists.

The Spartans are back in action Saturday, October 14. They take on Evangel University at 1 pm.
