SPARTAN STRENGTH COMES ALIVE IN WIN OVER HORNETS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist Volleyball continued its strong American Midwest Conference play on Tuesday. Rachel Poole led the Spartans with 28 assists in a 3-0 sweep over Harris-Stowe (Mo.).

Missouri Baptist (24-6, 8-1 AMC) carried its momentum from a highly competitive weekend into Tuesday evening's match from the outset. The Spartans started the first set with a 13-1 run, which set the tone for the evening. Missouri Baptist hit a blistering .944 as a team in the game as they went on to a commanding 25-5 victory.

The Spartans were met with a much tougher opposition in the second set. The Hornets went back and forth with Missouri Baptist at the beginning of the game, but the home team pulled away.

Missouri Baptist led 9-7 and put together a quick 4-0 run to extend the lead to 13-9 and never looked back. Helped in part by a pair of consecutive service aces by Maggie Sorensen, the Spartans held the advantage to grab a 25-16 victory. Sorensen finished the evening with four aces.

The Spartans looked good from the start of the third set, but Harris Stowe came back. After taking an early 5-0 lead, the Hornets battled back to tie it up at 13.

Missouri Baptist, however, proved to be too much as Brilee Henson put together an impressive service run to seal the deal in the final set.

Kristina Medanovic led the Spartan offense in the match with a perfect 1.000 attack percentage and six kills. Marion Couraud picked-up eight kills with an attack percentage of .313 while Kelly Wilson impressed with seven kills on 10 swings.

As a whole, Missouri Baptist hit .391 for the match and held Harris-Stowe to .069 on the night.

Harris Stowe was led by Tiffany Hopkins. The 6-1 sophomore finished with four kills and a .364 attack percentage.

Missouri Baptist will continue the final stretch of the 2017 home season on Friday when the welcome the Reinhardt (Ga.) Eagles to the friendly confines of the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
