ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer traveled to Harris-Stowe on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 3-1 victory.
The home side Hornets struck first in the opening half. Freshman Victoria Sample beat MBU keeper Alex Lair from 35 yards out to put Harris-Stowe ahead 1-0 in the 12th minute. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Spartan leading scorer Haylee Eastridge took just four minutes to find the equalizer. Monica Robinson provided the assist on Eastridge's 22nd goal of the season.
The match stayed all square into the second half but turned on its head in the 56th minute when a Harris-Stowe player was sent off with a red card. The Spartans took full advantage of the extra player. In the 66thminute, sophomore Casey Gutting's first collegiate goal gave MBU its first lead of the day. Four minutes later, Eastridge's second of the day put the match out of reach.
The Spartans controlled the play most of the day, outshooting the Hornets 15-2. The win moves MBU's overall record to 8-6-1 (6-4 AMC). Their next match will be Wednesday when St. Louis College of Pharmacy comes to Spartan Field. It will be the final regular season home match of 2017. Start time is scheduled for 11 am.
