ST. LOUIS— [BOX SCORE] The Spartans continued the season facing off against their first American Midwest Conference competitor, the Central Baptist College Mustangs.
Missouri Baptist rolled through the first two sets with little trouble, 25-8 and 25-10. The third set, however, proved to be a bigger challenge for MBU.
Central Baptist hit the court with a few lineup changes and were ready to battle it out. After many back and forth rallies, a Mustang error put the Spartans in the lead. It was then that the squad started dishing out the necessary plays to stay ahead.
The match came to a close with a kill from Missouri Baptist's Maggie Sorensen (25-20).
Cate Cigarini lead the Spartans in kills with eight total, while Marion Couraud, Tina Medanovic, and Kelly Wilson stayed close behind with seven each. Ana Oliveira, Brilee Henson, and Sorensencontributed five kills apiece, as well.
Setters Rachel Poole and Natalie Hecht finished the evening with 24 and 11 assists, respectively.
The Spartans officially won their first conference match of the 2017 season, and look to continue their streak on Friday against Lyon College at 6 pm.
