WOMEN’S SOCCER KNOCKS OFF WILLIAM WOODS IN OT

ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Senior Haylee Eastridge scored in the eighth minute of the first sudden death overtime to help Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer knock off Williams Woods 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans were forced to come from behind, something they hadn't successfully done yet this season. Williams Woods' freshman attacker, Aurora Henriksen put the Owls ahead in the 17th minute.

The score remained 1-0 through halftime and into the 58th minute. That's when Haylee Eastridge accepted a pass in space from Casey Gutting and fired home to knot things at one. The play began with a perfect long ball over the top from defender Jackie Hagan.

Missouri Baptist controlled the play for most of the second half. Eastridge fired seven shots on goal in the match but Owls' keeper Rebecca Sturgess made one acrobatic save after another. The match carried into golden goal overtime and MBU continued to pepper the William Woods goal.

Finally, with two minutes to go in the first overtime, Eastridge found daylight and made no mistake. The senior ripped a shot into the upper left corner of the net to win it for Missouri Baptist. Freshman Casey Gutting once again provided the assist for her second career point.

For the match, MBU doubled up William Woods in shots on goal at 10-5. Spartan keeper Alex Lair made four saves in net to earn her fourth win of the season.

The Spartans improve to 4-2-1 on the season and 2-0 in American Midwest Conference play. They'll now travel to Kansas City to take on Park on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 5 pm.
