ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer dropped a 4-0 decision to Park University on Wednesday night. The Pirates scored three times in the first 15 minutes of the opening half to put a stranglehold on the match.
Gabi Severns began the scoring just 1:08 into the match. The senior controlled a cross and fired past Spartan keeper Alex Lair from the top of the box. Taylor Buckholz doubled the lead just three minutes later with a header off a cross and Isabel Sullivan made it 3-0 when she headed home from a corner kick in the 11th minute.
The Spartans were stunned after the slow start but settled down and held the Pirates off the board for rest of the first half and the majority of the match. Unfortunately the MBU offense could not beat Park keeper Alyssa Gregory. They fired nine total shots but just two found their way on goal. On the other end, Alex Lair made 13 saves on 17 Park shots on goal. The senior now needs just seven saves to tie the MBU career record.
The loss drops the Spartans' record to 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the AMC. Park improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the AMC. The Spartans will have an opportunity to get right back on the horse when they take on Williams Baptist on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff in Walnut Ridge, Ark. is set for 11 am.
