ST. LOUIS—The No. 3 ranked Spartans continued conference play on Wednesday evening. They made their way to Harris-Stowe State, defeating the Hornets in three sets.
The first set was a bit of a slow start for MBU, as Harris-Stowe jumped out to a quick lead. After a service error from the Hornets, MBU managed to tie things up. Tied at 8-8, a kill from
Ana Oliveira put the Spartans ahead. From there, Missouri Baptist stayed ahead, taking set one, 25-12.
MBU jumped out to quick leads in set two and three with the Hornets staying on their tail throughout. Although they managed to keep up with the Spartans, it was not enough. MBU cruised through the final two sets (25-15, 25-14), taking the sweep over HSSU.
With this win, the Spartans remain undefeated in the American Midwest Conference and push their record-breaking win streak to 26 straight.
Outside hitter
Ana Oliveira was back in action, leading the match in kills with a total of nine (.571 attack percentage).
Brilee Henson finished the evening with six kills, and
Megan Williams and
Sophia Cristiani each finished with five total.
Rachel Luebbers,
Sarah Bolton and
Maggie Sorensen led the defensive effort, each clocking out at five total digs, while setters
Megan Huffman and
Nicole Bott handed out 15 and 10 assists, respectively.
The Spartans continue conference play next week, welcoming the Owls of William Woods to the Petty SRC on Tuesday, October 23. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
